The NPSOT-Austin Chapter has been offered the opportunity to conduct a plant rescue on at least 9 acres on 12/2 Saturday and 12/10 Sunday in Pflugerville, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm each day. Nine acres of this larger parcel will be developed beginning in January. We appreciate the willingness of the developer, Presidium Group, to allow this rescue and invite all NPSOT members, friends and guests to participate. Please share this rescue information with other interested groups.
Attached is an informal survey (see this link) of the native plants available for rescue and there are many plants, grasses and seeds ready for harvesting. Let’s save as many plants as we can!
Come prepared with suitable clothing for brush, thick boots, hats, water and your own shovels, bags, pots, and containers. The land has a thick grass and plant carpet that may be challenging and not sure if garden carts can maneuver. Also beware there is some poison ivy and thorny plants.
Directions: For orientation purposes the property is behind the Dairy Queen at 1701 W. Pecan St. Pflugerville but please meet around the corner at Heatherwilde Blvd at Old Austin Pflugerville Road. Old Austin Pflugerville Road is behind EVS Metal and is a good place to park adjacent to the rescue site. Map quest directions from I-35 are as follows:Take I35 to Exit 247Exit 247 toward FM-1825.
