Directions to the Baker Sanctuary

Come hike the Baker Sanctuary with Austin and Williamson County Native Plant Societies. The 690 acre Sanctuary,  part of the Balcones Canyonlands Conservation Plan, was established to protect the Golden Cheeked Warbler. Wear close-toed shoes. Bring field guides, water. Red Buckeye (Aesculus pavia)

10 – 15′ tall small deciduous tree typically found near streams. Showy red flowers, sometimes as early as February; palmately compound leaves. Part shade, medium moist soil. Large, lustrous, brown seeds.

We’ve updated our site banner for winter with our native Possomhaw Holly, Illex decidua. An important food source for birds and mammals, the female Possomhaw Holly brightens the landscape with her beautiful berries.
