Give lots of room, this vine likes to spread. Or cut back and pull suckers to contain in smaller spaces. Propagation: Seed.

Comments

Blooms May-October. The whole plant has an unpleasant smell, but the large purple flowers are showy, The flowers are a similar color to Passiflora incarnata, Purple Passionflower, but the leaves are not as large or as deeply lobed. It is an attractive ornamental for use on trellises and arbors. Be careful to check the label when purchasing this vine. it includes botanical varieties that are not native to North America, e.g. Passiflora foetida var. lanuginosa, Scarletfruit Passionflower. Larval Host: Gulf Coast Fritillary. Fruit eaten by birds.
