Maintenance

Likes good drainage. Native Habitat: open woods and on rocky hills in shrublands and thickets. Will go dormant in summer without supplemental water. Cut back to rosette in winter. Propagation: Seed, Softwood cuttings, Tuber divison.

Comments

Blooms January-December, depending on region. Sprawling plant great for filling in garden spaces. Rounded, hairy leaves are deeply lobed. The purple flowers have a white spot at the base of their five, maroon petals. Flowers close in the evening. open in the morning and remain closed after pollination. Winecup is susceptible to a rust during wet seasons. Larval Host: Gray Hairstreak, Painted Lady.
