LAWN GONE: The Ecological Disaster that is the American Lawn
BY RANDY JOHNSON
MARCH 22, 7 P.M., VIRTUAL MEETING
We are pleased to host Randy Johnson this month talking about the American lawn. The American lawn is an enormous consumer of natural resources, time and money. There are currently over 40 million acres of lawn in the United States. The loss of biodiversity and pollinator habitat, water usage, soil, water and air pollution are all profound negative impacts created by the typical lawn. This presentation will offer a look at the history of the lawn along with their environmental impacts. Information will be offered on how to reduce or eliminate your lawn and replace it with a beautiful, functional, native centric landscape.
Randy Johnson graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences. His business, Randy Johnson Organics, offers native plants and seeds for sale as well as offering on-site environmental consultations. Randy was formerly the Horticulture Manager at the Dallas Zoo and the Director of Horticulture at Texas Discovery Gardens. He is a board member of Peckerwood Gardens in Hempstead, Texas and is the Garden Consultant for the Lake highland Community Garden. He has served as the President and Vice President of the Dallas Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas.
This Zoom meeting will be posted on the Prairie Rose Facebook Page after the event. https://www.facebook.com/PrairieRoseNPSOT.
