Thank you to Lauren Simpson for her amazing and entertaining presentation “Creating a Pollinator Paradise” last month. Over 60 native plant enthusiasts were in attendance, free native seeds from Lauren, a couple raffle winners of her book and a native plant, and homemade baked goods!
Her 5-point message? Plant natives, welcome predators, mix it up, pile it up, and embrace imperfection.
Lauren recommended several books:
- Bringing Nature Home, Douglas W. Tallamy (HOW to do it)
- Nature’s Best Hope, Douglas W. Tallamay (WHY to do it)
- Attracting Beneficial Bugs to Your Garden, Jessica Walliser (natural pest control)
- The Living Landscape, Rick Darke & Doug Tallamy (good beginner book)
- Garden Revolution, Larry Weaner & Thomas Christopher (reference manual)
- Planting In A Post-Wild World, Thomas Rainer & Claudia West (not just natives)
And if you have a chance to read Jeremy Hance’s 2019 article “The Great Insect Dying”, which Lauren recommended, you can click on the link HERE.
