The meeting will start with a social time at 6:00pm, at Hunke Gathering Hall at Herff Farm, 33 Herff Road, Boerne. Announcements will begin at 6:45pm, followed by the presentation. For the social time, please bring any snacks/appetizers/desserts that you would like to share.
Our presentation topic is Land Stewardship for Birds – Part II. The speakers, Jan Wrede and Rufus Stephens will be discussing areas within the Texas Hill Country with sparse undergrowth and/or lack of plant diversity, and what can be done to make the land more attractive and supportive for birds. In some cases, sparse undergrowth may be attributed to over mowing, overgrazing, and clearing methods that do not retain or incorporate ground cover. A lack of plant diversity can be described as a portion of a natural environment that has become too dominant, which can lead to an imbalance in watersheds, erosion, and reduction of shelter for animals. If you would like to submit photos of an area with sparse undergrowth and/or a lack of plant diversity to be discussed during the presentation, please email to boerne-chapter@npsot.org.
