Native Plants of Northeast Texas
Our chapter’s March 7 meeting will include a presentation by Matt White on “Native Plants of Northeast Texas”. Matt is a wildflower enthusiast with a passion for finding and helping to protect native wildflowers. He teaches history at Paris Junior College and has authored “Prairie Time: A Blackland Portrait” and “Birds of Northeast Texas“.
Much of northeast Texas was once covered in diverse and beautiful prairies; their elimination has spelled disaster for the flowers that were once common here. This presentation will focus on some of the lesser known and rarer flowers that did not do well after their habitats were destroyed. Matt has spent the last 25 years chasing down and photographing them in the remnants where they occur.
The virtual meeting starts at 6:30 with social time, followed by chapter updates at 7:00, and then shortly after will be featured presentation. Registration is required.
