Texas Thistle:Cirsium texanum Family: Sunflower: Asteraceae
NATIVE DISTRIBUTION: Pastures, prairies and disturbed sites across Texas except East and the Panhandle.  This plant takes a lot of room but if you have the space it is really worth cultivating. The flowers are truly beautiful and they are especially attractive to butterflies and moths. The sphinx moths flock to them at night.  Goldfinches eat the seed and line their nests with the silky fluff.
