The Native Plant Society of Texas awarded $17,575 in small grants this spring to 63 community and school gardens around the state to fund planting of Monarch butterfly habitat. Cathy Downs of the Bring Back the Monarch to Texas program announced the grants March 12 during the Spring Symposium in Austin.
The Bring Back the Monarch to Texas program awards small grants each year to schools, nature centers and other organizations in order to create demonstration gardens with Monarch habitat. Grants may only be used to pay for native milkweeds or native butterfly nectar plants. A complete list of gardens receiving grants this spring is available here.
Funds to support the Bring Back the Monarch to Texas program come from the US Fish & Wildlife Service, from Monarch Watch and from individual gifts and donations. If you would like to help support the project please donate online or contact our office.
