Plant Labels: All plants offered in the sale must be labeled. The label must contain a common and the scientific name. Mature size, light and water requirements must be included. If space permits, describe the flower, fruit or other characteristic important in home landscapes. Individuals may prepare labels for the plants they are donating. The Plant Sale Committee will prepare labels for individuals who notify the committee of their needs three weeks in advance of the plant sale.
Volunteer: Volunteer work days to pot plants will be organized during the two months before the sale. Other opportunities to participate include one to two hour shifts at the sales booth, booth set-up the evening before the sale, plant labeling, and booth break-down the afternoon of the sale. Sign up sheets for volunteering will be distributed during regular monthly meetings or contact the sale chair to volunteer.
General: It’s not too early to start growing plants for The Mostly Native Plant Sale. Perhaps some of your natives have seeded out in your planting beds. Instead of discarding those small plants when cleaning your beds, dig them and put them into pots for our sale. Their roots will continue to grow during the winter and before they start to show signs of growth in the spring.
Plants dug in the spring should be placed into pots no later than 3-4 weeks before the sale. Plants potted later will not have developed a root system sufficient to fill the pot. Poorly rooted plants might not survive transplanting into the home landscapes of our customers. While you might be able to nurse a less than optimal plant along in your landscape, we want to sale only plants that the average home owner will have a good chance of growing successfully. Bare root plants are acceptable if they are not potted.

I certainly hope so! He has been there each year for the past several years. His nursery is wonderful, and it’s such a pleasure to visit. Most likely you could find out from the Cibolo Nature Center the list of vendors who have currently signed up. CNC organizes The Mostly Native Plant Sale. Some vendors may not sign up until later.

I really don’t know if Pedro will be there this year. You can find out by contacting the Cibolo Nature Center directly as they make and keep track of those registered to have booths there. I hope he will be!
